Report on noise Mahim Fair 25th December 2015
Awaaz Foundation measured noise at the Mumbai Police Sandal starting from Mahim Police Station between about 4pm – 4.30pm today. The maximum noise measured from loudspeakers and drums was 119.9dB on the road just outside the police stations when measured from the gate of the Police Station where drums and loudspeakers were also being used.
it is truly unfortunate that the police, charged with enforcing the Noise Pollution Rules are the first to violate them at the Mahim Fair every year and that this year, in spite of repeated complaints and requests to control noise from local residents andin spite of Court Orders to control noise, no action has been taken at all. We will continue to monitor noise levels during the rest of the Mahim Fair.
I also take this opportunity to draw to your attention the inappropriate carriage of lethal weapons such as daggers in the presence of police, where wounds oozing blood are clearly visible and apparently executed during the processions where police personnel active participate.
Yours sincerely,
Sumaira Abdulali
