Report noise levels on Central Railway trains
Noise levels were checked in trains from Chatrapti Shivaji Terminus on a new train installed with loudspeakers and on an old train without loudspeakers.
The new train had quieter background levels of noise, measuring from 72.8 to 74.2 db. However, with frequent loudspeaker use the noise levels increased to 88.8dB. Many of the announcements were non-essential and frequent. In addition, the loudspeakers were used while the train was standing on the platform. The highest levels were recorded by the brakes of the train, which made a screeching sound measuring upto 100.6dB
The old train measured 82dB background noise and went upto 113 dB when brakes were used.
